Week 4 Origination

Today,

I was at home sick, So I Didn’t Talk about the subjects that were discussed in the class, however I do have the powerpoint at my disposal to use and blog about. So here we go…


We Looked at law 3 : Time
 of John Maeda's book The Laws of Simplicity.

Questions Below:

1. What is the major benefit of saving time?

To prevent time wasted when it could be used to do more important things or to fit more into your day. 

2. How do designers integrate time into their products?

Making functionality, appearance, portability and hardware simplier to reduce the unnecessary processes we use to get to our goal.

3. Explain the relationship between making waiting shorter with making waiting more tolerable

Music, pictures, lots of different distractions like a music channel on tv or a movie.

4. How can you use your timeline to increase your own efficiency as a designer?

Keep to the process of creating, dont get distracted.

5. Briefly outline an event or activity in which you are adept at time saving?

Putting my shoes and Socks on in the car, ( im not driving obviously) on the way to work or uni to save time :) 

6. What part of your design/multimedia process do you need to improve at, in terms of saving time?

Researching, I need a process for researching on the web as I trail off almost everytime.


BRANDING

I could Name 14 of the 20 Logos :) Not bad eh ? :)

Things I learned From Looking At The Powerpoint : 

A Brand Is A product, service, symbols, slogan or design scheme. 
I was a bit confussed as it said branding is a logo and then say it is not a logo..?


I wasnt suprised to see that Coke branding is number 1 but I was surprised to see that Macdonalds and Google were further down the line.. odd I thought to myself ..

I call them the 6 P's of Perfection :)

EXERCISE: Analyzing Patterns / Branding

Develop a list of words or phrases that describe last years logo.

Firstly Id Like to say that i dont like this design at all, i think it lacks creativity but then again thats just one persons opinion.

1: Name - Meaning/ effectiveness

- NT
- Up top
- Portrays the idea well

2: Graphic - Meaning/ effectiveness

-Positioning is done well
-Dont Like the font at the bottom.. its too clear
-Its effective but i feel it steers more towards paintings and not art or design in general

VIDEO: I found this video on youtube advertising last years exhibit..




I didn't like this advertisement very much, it seemed too childish and it wouldnt appeal to all ages. The overall script and music is good but i dont feel the imagery works well in publicizing the exhibition.
