Week 5 Origination

Today,

We Had a guest speaker from CDU Corporate Communications, Jobst Herman.

Here are my notes from the Talk:

Project Background : Why the logo needed a change.

-Territorians thought it was an institution of no national credibility
-Semi professional due to its inconsistency of logos and fonts
-Lack of guidelines
-Brand audit backs up research results
-VC gave marketing and communication the task of relaunching the CDU brand
-We looked at the old vs. new logos..
-Prospective client
-Little alterations make a big difference… so EXPERIMENT.

Went with the logo because:

-Very strong
-Very good reproduction
-Clear easy to memorise
-Combines modern and traditional elements

Brand ID guidelines: the set of rules defining the correct application of logos, colour palette and typography

He showed us where on the website to find the logo..

Top left generally 35 mm border around the whole logo...

We also looked at incorrect logo usage.. they were shocking. :(

Dominates when compared to others logos.

Below Is A Cool Video that a guy shows you how to make a logo thats Simple but effective.
SUNTIAS LOGISTIC REPORT:

The Exhibition is coming along well but timelines need to be made and we need to start production on the logo.

JOHN MAEDA QUESTIONS: Law 4

1. Describe the relationship between teaching and learning according to Maeda?

It is the Teachers role to teach and the students role to learn. Good teachers should adopt the need to learn to understand perspectives, Give students a positive learning environment. Apparently more homework is better as knowledge is the ultimate reward.

2. Describe the importance of the use of metaphors in learning, why would you use them, how, give an example?

Metaphors in learning are important because they give you the ability to compare a certain situation to another to explain the thing better.
For example- some one who is unwell and is feeling better and back at work.  The appropriate metaphor is "back in the saddle".

3. BRAIN - what does the acronym stand for – why is it important?

Basics are the beginning,
Repeat yourself often,

Avoid creating desperation,
Inspire with examples,
Never forget to repeat yourself.

It is important because this is maedas teaching method which i think is effective just by reading it.

4. Describe a situation where you have been required to teach someone a skill. How could you apply the BRAIN principle to it?

Ive had to teach numerous people photoshop skills and i pretty much followed maedas Brain principle just in my own way.
